"Tell me, what is it you plan to do

with your one wild and precious life?"

Mary Oliver

My name is Tamara Van Newkirk and Pure Wellness and Meditation is an integration of my experiences over the years and my desire to help others find meaning and happiness in their one wild and precious life. I have been a licensed, clinical social worker since 2003 and have worked in a variety of settings including mental health organizations, emergency departments, crisis intervention, suicide prevention/postvention, and hospice. I have a certificate in Mindfulness-Based Contemplative Psychotherapy from the Nalanda Institute and am a member of the Maryland chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, the Maryland Bereavement Network and the EMDR International Association.

I have been a Reiki Practitioner since 2012 and a Reiki Master Practitioner since 2015.  I have personally benefited from this powerful healing and love having the opportunity to help others discover Reiki. I have also been a dedicated student of meditation and mindfulness practices for many years and continue to learn and grow in this practice.  I am grateful to have the opportunity to share what I learn with others through facilitating workshops on mindfulness, mental health, suicide intervention and Conscious Aging. I am passionate about human rights, social justice, animals, peace, and kindness. I try to practice gratitude and compassion daily (though some days I fail miserably at this) and not take myself too seriously. Above all, I believe that we are all in this life together, trying to do the best we can, experiencing both joy and suffering; we all want the same basic things in life: to be happy, to feel connected, to have purpose. We need to take care of ourselves and each other. After all, in the words of Ram Dass: "We're all just walking each other home".
