Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and deep relaxation. Reiki is based on the awareness that an unseen energy flows through all living things and can directly affect a person's health and well-being. This life energy goes by many names: qi in China, ki in Japan, and prana in India. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "Spiritual Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit.
When our life energy is low we are more vulnerable to stress and illness. Reiki is a natural and gentle way of enhancing the mind-body's own natural ability to move towards health and well-being. Reiki can increase and balance one's energy and be a beneficial part of an overall self care routine. Reiki is becoming more recognized for its healing properties. It is now offered in more than 800 hospitals in the U.S. Research has shown that Reiki can improve sleep, reduce pain, and help with anxiety among other benefits.
Reiki is done while the client is lying comfortably and fully clothed on a massage table. The Reiki practitioner will gently place their hands on or just above the body. A session lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. Your initial session will begin with a discussion about you and your wellness goals. Please allow the full hour for your first session.
